The Lowe’s Foundation is developing a community of skilled tradespeople to build and revitalize their homes, communities and infrastructure for the future. This new national grant program is a $50 million commitment over the next five years that will directly support community and technical colleges and community based nonprofit organizations to recruit and train 50,000 new job-ready tradespeople to help fill the skilled trades gap.

After more than 100 years of serving communities across America, they understand their role in helping others see what’s possible in their communities and in their own lives. That’s why they focus their philanthropic investments in partnerships and programs that address pressing needs and create lasting impact.

At the Lowe’s Foundation, they are currently focused on closing the skilled trades labor gap across the United States. Their mission is to develop a community of skilled tradespeople who can build and revitalize their homes, neighborhoods and infrastructure for the future.

The Lowe’s Foundation Gable Grants program is a 5-year, $50 million commitment to train 50,000 job-ready skilled tradespeople to build a stronger infrastructure that supports their communities for the long term. From 2023-2028, community and technical colleges and community-based nonprofit.

Funding Information

Grant awards are needs based and range between $100,000 and $1,000,000. Funds must be used for program-related expenses for skilled trades workforce development including instructors, program materials, training space, equipment, capacity building, etc. Grantees are required to measure impact and provide periodic reporting throughout grant funding period.

Grant Duration

The grant period is 24 months. Your program or initiative must start the following semester, program term, or student enrollment period.

Eligibility Criteria

Organizations applying for Gable Grants must qualify as a community-based nonprofit organization or community and technical college as follows:

  • Community-Based Nonprofit Organization: A nonprofit organization with tax-exempt status under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code or recognized government entity: state, county, or city agency, including law enforcement departments.
  • Community & Technical Colleges: community college that is a public institution of higher education and at which the associate degree is primarily the highest degree awarded. Also accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency or association that has been recognized by the United States Department of Education over the course of the grant.

In addition, organizations must currently offer or plan to offer post-secondary skilled trades education programs with an emphasis on appliance repair, carpentry/construction, electrical, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and/or plumbing. Programs must serve one or more underrepresented communities as follows:

  • Women
  • People of Color
  • Rural areas
  • Individuals who are formerly incarcerated or participating in diversion programs

The decision to award a grant is at the sole discretion of Lowe’s Foundation and all decisions are final.
