These Centers will support NCIPC’s priorities and mission through high quality research, training, and outreach, as well as effective translation of scientific discoveries into practice for the prevention and control of injuries and violence.
This NOFO recognizes that while injury and violence affect all communities and population subgroups, some communities and populations experience a greater public health burden from injury and violence. The social and structural conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work and age can be shaped by the distribution of resources. These social determinants of health (e.g., concentrated poverty, structural racism, high rates of unemployment and community violence, weak social connectedness, limited access to high-quality education and/or affordable, high-quality childcare) contribute to health inequities, including the differences in health status seen across population groups and communities. Applicants are expected to focus on people and populations who are disproportionately affected by injury and violence, and to consider the underlying social and structural conditions that contribute to inequities in risk for, and public health burden of injury and violence. This includes but is not limited to rural and tribal communities; neighborhoods with high rates of crime, violence, and social disadvantage; racial, ethnic, sexual, or gender minority groups; veterans, and people with disabilities. This focus is expected for proposed research projects, and outreach and training activities and partnerships. Partnerships should be representative of the people and communities that will be participating in the proposed ICRC activities. Additionally, applicants are expected to develop a diverse and inclusive Center workforce.
