Details:

The Help Me Grow King County (HMGKC) strategy is based on Help Me Grow, a national model designed to support families and their children by connecting them to what they need, when and how they need it. At Best Starts, HMGKC serves as a foundation for all Investing Early (prenatal to five years old) strategies and is rooted in the values of self-determination, strength, and resilience, and partners with Help Me Grow Washington (HMGWA) and local community organizations to understand how to best connect families and communities to services and adapt the national model.

This RFP is seeking to partner with groups and organizations:

  • that are rooted in the communities they serve;
  • that share culture and language with the families and communities they serve;
  • that hold strong relationships with the families and communities they serve; and
  • that implement family and community informed programs providing pregnant women and people, parents and caregivers warm connections to services.

Funding Information

  • Approximately $5,011,527 is available through the Best Starts for Kids to support the work described in this RFP. Contracts will begin April 1st of 2023 and run through December 31, 2025.
  • Applicants may request a maximum of $550,000 for 32 months of programming.

Eligibility Criteria

  • This request is open to nonprofit organizations, community-based organizations, tribes, and tribal organizations and public or governmental agencies serving communities in King County. Small nonprofits and community-based organizations are encouraged to submit proposals.
  • Ideal applicants will:
    • Reflect the language, culture, and/or ethnicity of the parents, caregivers, and families they serve
    • Uphold and center community needs and interests in all decisions and recommendations
    • Understand the local impacts of historical and current systemic racism Know the landscape of resources and services available to families with young children in King County
    • Know the range of barriers families face when seeking resources and services
    • Understand the stigma present in many communities regarding developmental differences
    • Provide direct service staff equitable compensation. Equitable pay may vary according to an organization’s size, access to funding, history, and other factors, so this RFP will not impose a set dollar amount to define equitable pay. Instead, applicants will be asked to cultivate comprehensive plans to facilitate staff retention and demonstrate how they:
      • At minimum, pay the living wage applicable to the geographic area where organization staff work.
      • Offer incentives like bonuses and regularly scheduled performance-based raises.
      • Provide benefits, which may include, but are not limited to health, dental and vision insurance; paid time off (PTO); retirement plans; flexible schedules; and professional development.
      • Maintain justifiable pay gaps between the highest paid and lowest paid employees within the organization or group.
