Details:

SDG&E seeks to support trusted social service organizations with significant programmatic reach and the organizational capacity to quickly utilize funding for the expansion of direct-service work to benefit communities. Funding can be used flexibly across basic needs programs. In consultation with local experts and leaders, SDG&E has identified the following priorities for this grant initiative, and they would like to know about your work in these areas in particular.

Priority focus areas include:

  • Housing and rental assistance, focused on short-term assistance to prevent evictions (not to include homeless shelters and services)
  • Food security, including emergency food assistance and access/enrollment in permanent assistance programs SDG&E seeks to support diverse underserved communities.

Priority populations include:

  • Low-income individuals and families
  • Older adults
  • Communities of concern (any geographic unit with a population of people of color and/or a population experiencing poverty that is higher than a certain threshold)

Funding Information

This two-phase grant program seeks to provide roughly 20 nonprofits with a transformational level of support ranging from $250,000 to $1 million.

Criteria

Each proposal must be led by a nonprofit with 501(c)(3) public charity status, located in and serving San Diego County and/or select ZIP codes in South Orange County.

Eligibility

  • Applications will only be accepted from nonprofits with 501(c)(3) public charity status, operating in and serving San Diego County or select South Orange County ZIP codes.
  • Grant funds must be expended within a 12-month timeline for the purposes outlined above.
  • Initiative will not fund payments on existing debt, regranting programs, endowments, research, capital projects or organizations that are outside of SDG&E’s San Diego/South Orange County service area.

Recommendations

  • Clearly articulate the organization’s current work in the priority focus areas.
  • Demonstrate the organization’s capacity (based on budget, staff size and current programmatic reach) to quickly utilize funding to provide direct basic needs support to priority populations.
  • Use bullet points and lists as possible in LOI responses, rather than paragraphs, to provide an overview of your work and reach.
