ABNY Foundation 2022 Grant Program – New York

Dated: January 7, 2022

The ABNY Foundation is seeking applications to provide funds for social, educational, and civic initiatives that enhance the quality of life in the five boroughs of New York City.

Donor Name: Association for a Better New York

State: New York

City: New York City

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline (mm/dd/yyyy): 12/01/2022

Details:

The ABNY Foundation will continue to focus on communities and sectors most negatively affected by COVID-19. Grants will prioritize minority, women, disadvantaged, veteran, and LGBTQ-owned entities and service providers to such entities within the five boroughs of New York City. Grants also will prioritize small and midsize entities of 50 employees or less.

2022 Priority Areas of Giving in the theme of New York City’s Recovery and Revitalization:

  • Arts, Culture & Entertainment: Programs that promote cultural experiences throughout New York City’s business districts were affected negatively by the economic downturn created by the COVID-19 pandemic. This priority area supports programs that encourage a range of activities that promote economic development and street activity through outdoor programming, ground floor retail activations, and provide new ways for New Yorkers to enjoy cultural programming and build community. Examples include music, dance, and theatrical performances in public plazas, pop-up theatre performances on commercial corridors, street fairs with local artisan entrepreneurs, and partnerships between local businesses and cultural organizations to produce a “dinner and a show” experience.
  • COVID Response Health Care: Community-based health care services that address the evolving needs created by the COVID pandemic, incorporating health equity practices into health interventions. This priority area focuses on programs that help those who need assistance with COVID-related health care–preventative, testing, and after care. Examples include the distribution of clear and accurate information to educate community members about the COVID-19 virus, provision of COVID testing and vaccinations, PPE distribution, assistance with scheduling vaccination appointments, and accessing resources for treatment and medicines.
  • Public Realm Revitalization & Improved Livability: Projects and efforts that reimagine neighborhood and economic revitalization through public space and streetscape improvements. This priority area focuses on programs that support business district revitalization driven by innovation and create solutions that improve New York City’s commercial areas incorporating social, environmental, and economic priorities and shaped by those who live, work, and run businesses within the communities. Examples include projects that reimagine open dining and sidewalk café designs; improvements that integrate transit safety for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians; assistance with open streets/culture/storefront applications; and jobs creation through booster campaigns, i.e. art installations by neighborhood artists.
  • Public Safety: Programs that safeguard the public from crimes, disasters, and other potential dangers and threats. This priority area will support community-based programs that focus on re-entry programs for the formerly incarcerated, gun violence prevention, and community/police relations. Examples include support for violence interrupters, job placement for gang members and domestic violence victims, and re-entry programs.
  • Small Business Support: Services to support existing small business operations during economic uncertainty and resources to help small businesses reopen, operate, sustain, and grow. This priority area focuses on sectors hit hardest by the economic downturn created by the COVID-19 pandemic, including restaurants, arts/entertainment/recreation, hospitality, and minority/women/veteran-owned businesses. Examples include loan and grant application support, small business counseling, Key to NYC Vaccination requirement support, PPE distribution, and reopening plans.
  • Workforce Development: Services that create, sustain, and retain a viable workforce. This priority area focuses on programs that provide job placement, job training, soft skills training, diverse workforce pipelines, and COVID-19 recovery support. Examples include job training and placement assistance to those workers who have been displaced as a result of COVID-19 and training and employment support to those working in industries and sectors negatively affected by the economic downturn created by the COVID-19 pandemic, i.e. hospitality, service, and retail.
