The Durham City’s Cultural and Public Art Program, which administers the Festivals and Special Events Request for Proposals (RFP) application process, is now seeking creative and innovative proposals from qualified entities in Durham to support new or existing arts and cultural festivals and/or special events.

The City of Durham recognizes that festivals, parades, and other celebrations play an important role in fostering community well-being, creating local identity, and in contributing to an improved quality of life of Durham residents and visitors. Community-based festivals and events reflect the vibrant, distinct and diverse character of Durham and its residents while offering opportunities to create economic, social, health and community benefits.
The goals of the FY22/23 Festival and Special Events Funding are to support organizations and events that:
- Encourage awareness of art, history and/or culture,
- Create vibrancy for Durham’s communities,
- Promote equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility,
- Benefit Durham’s economy and communities, and
- Demonstrate organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
Eligibility Criteria
Successful respondents must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Not-for-profit entity or partner with a not-for-profit fiscal entity.
- Suitable experience in festival planning or similar projects.
- Sufficient insurance against any potential liabilities provided by the contracted not-for-profit entity.
- Adequate financial capacity.
- Produce festival(s) and/or special events between July 1, 2022 to December 31, 2023.
