Strategic Energy Management Program in New York

Dated: October 20, 2022

This New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) Program Opportunity Notice (PON) 4371 seeks applications from facilities that are interested in adopting Strategic Energy Management (SEM) practices at their facilities.

Donor Name: New York State Energy Research and Development Authority

State: New York

County: All Counties

Type of Grant: Program

Deadline: 12/31/2025

Details:

The Strategic Energy Management program supports businesses interested in adopting SEM practices by offering two options: SEM On Demand and virtual treasure hunts.

SEM On Demand is a remote-learning training program that features one-on-one technical support and guidance to facilitate the adoption of SEM. SEM On Demand helps facilities identify low- and no-cost ways to reduce their energy consumption in the short term with strategies for maintaining the cost-reduction business practices long term. This program focuses on flexible, practical solutions for reducing energy costs within the recognizable framework of continuous improvement.

There are two (2) specific components to this PON. Applications will be accepted for the following:

  • SEM On Demand: participants establish organization-wide energy management commitments that will help them meet their energy, environmental, resilience, and/or other company goals or local mandates. Participants of SEM On Demand attend a series of five virtual SEM workshops delivered by an SEM Coach over an approximately one-year cycle. In the second year of engagement, SEM Coaches support the energy management programs at participant sites through check-in calls, encourage energy project completion, and track energy performance.
  • Virtual Treasure Hunts: use a virtual energy audit approach that leverages on-site staff, supported remotely by skilled energy auditors to identify energy saving opportunities, prioritize findings, and calculate the potential savings. These virtual treasure hunts are available to 10 facilities per year (6 industrial facilities and 4 commercial facilities), and applications will be accepted on a first-come, first served basis.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Participants that display a potential for energy savings or carbon savings will be considered for eligibility. Eligible participants include New York State Commercial and Industrial facilities that are New York State electricity customers who pay into the System Benefits Charge (SBC) through their electric utility company.
  • Additional factors that lead to a Participant’s success include the availability of energy and production data, strong executive support for participation, and an existing culture around continuous improvement.
