2023 Downtown District Large Event Grant Program – Florida

The City of Tallahassee Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Board has approved $100,000 in FY 2023 grant funding to help fund large special events within the Downtown District Community Redevelopment Area (DT).

Details:

The purpose of the program is to provide support to special events that promote the goals and objectives of the Downtown Community Redevelopment Plan and generate activity within the Downtown District. Large events may attract a regional audience (including attendees from other states) and generate economic vitality within the City of Tallahassee.

Grant funds are available for not-for-profit organizations that will host large events within the Downtown during Fiscal Year 2023 which begins October 1, 2022 and ends September 30, 2023.

Funding Information

The minimum grant award will be $10,000, maximum grant award $25,000, first-time event maximum grant award is up to $40,000. Applicants that showa dollar-for-dollar match not including the value of in-kind services will receive priority consideration.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicant must be a not-for-profit organization registered with the Florida Department of State, Division of Corporations. Not-for-profit public institutions (e.g., federal, state or local government; universities; etc.), political organizationsand/orreligious organizations are not eligible to apply for these grant funds.
  • Not-for-profit organizations may only receive one grant award per fiscal year per district per program. Organizations awarded funding from the Frenchtown or Bond Neighborhood First Plan for the same event and/or project are not eligible to receive funding from CRA Programs within the same fiscal year. Multiple applications will not be allowed.

What Program Funds Can Be Used For?

  • Rentals such as equipment, tents, chairs, tables, facilities, port-a-lets, etc.;
  • Marketing and promotion including advertising, printing of flyers, banners;
  • Entertainment, performers;
  • Permits, film license;
  • Security, general liability insurance;
  • Food and drinks that will be consumed at the event.

What Program Funds Cannot Be Used For?

  • Religious or political promotional/special events;
  • Promotional or special events that are inconsistent with the goals and objectives of the DT Community Redevelopment Plan.
  • Promotional or special events sponsored by the State of Florida, local governments or universities;
  • Events that are not open to the public, either for free or for a fee;
  • Operating expenses of the hosting organization, including salaries or other compensation;
  • Prize money, awards, plaques or certificates;
  • Purchase of tangible personal property;
  • Interest payments or reduction of deficits or loans;
  • Travel expenses;
  • Alcoholic beverages; and
  • Taxes, such as FloridaState Sales Tax
