The Educator-in-Residence will help identify and deepen best practices, provide professional development to Mural Arts teaching artists & Art Education staff, and propose new approaches based on the needs of program participants.

The Educator-in-Residence will serve as a thought-leader and their “eyes and ears” to the field for the Spring and Summer. The Educator-in-Residence is afforded a stipend, and access to staff and resources to develop and realize their projects. They seek applications from dynamic educators to act in an advisory role to the Art Education department, lead professional development sessions, and develop curricular and classroom resources for teaching artists.

Funding Information

The Educator-in-Residence will receive a stipend of $8,000 (May 2023 – August 2023).

Desired Qualifications

  • At least 3-5 years of previous teaching experience or work in education, specifically working with middle school and/or high school participants
  • Knowledge of healing-centered practices
  • Knowledge of anti-racist education practices
  • Some knowledge of how out-of-school time programming works with within public school environments
  • A creative practice or knowledge of creative practice(s) e.g. visual and performing arts, poetry, music.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three visits (in-person) to Mural Arts education programming in Philadelphia. The Educator-in-residence will be asked to provide observations and recommendations following these site visits
  • A minimum of 2 one-on-one meetings with each Lead and Assistant Teaching Artist pair to review curricula and provide feedback (virtual or in-person)
  • Lead two 2-hour professional development sessions for Mural Arts Teaching Artists and Art Education staff
  • one session will be scheduled the week of June 26, 2023
  • the other session is flexible between May – August
  • Create and share resource guide for teaching artists.
