The primary objective of the North Carolina Urban and Community Forestry (U&CF) Program is to assist communities with reaching a level of sustainable U&CF management that matches their goals and capacity.
- Urban forestry is defined as the planting, maintenance, care and protection of tree populations in urban settings for the purpose of enhancing the urban environment.
- Community forestry is defined as a branch of forestry whereby the local community plays a significant role in forest management and land use decision making by themselves in the facilitating support of government as well as change agents.
The ordered accomplishment of U&CF practices and activities build upon each other, enhancing the level of management and will lead to long term program success.
