The Tourism Advancement (TA) Grant combines and replaces the Tourism Project and Tourism Marketing grants offered in prior years. The TA Grant can fund product development and marketing expenses for qualifying projects. TA Grants are intended to increase visitation to Tompkins County.

Eligible Activities
Projects aligned with the Strategic Tourism Plan or other tourism implementation plans are eligible for funding. Examples of eligible uses of Tourism Advancement Grants include:
- Artistic performances and installations
- Agriculinary events
- Outdoor recreation events
- Events which attract a niche audience
- Heritage tourism events
- Festivals
- Temporary exhibits
- Guided tours

- Municipalities in Tompkins County
Evaluation Criteria and Considerations
Please keep the following review criteria in mind when developing your grant application. The grant review committee will score applications based on how they respond to the following questions:
- Travel Demand Generation
- Will the proposed activity generate overnight stays in Tompkins County? Will the demand occur during a time when travel demand is low (i.e., mid-week or winter)?
- Organizational Capacity
- Does the organization have the personnel and other resources necessary for the proposed activity? Does the proposal include adequate personnel, funding, and other resources? Has the applicant used technical assistance from the Tompkins Festivals Program or other sources? Is the applicant aware of the necessary permits and approvals?
- Strategic Tourism Plan
- How well does the application align with the goals and actions in the Tompkins County Strategic Tourism Plan: 2021 – 2027?
- Marketing Plan
- Does the application contain a clear marketing plan which identifies the audience and communication methods?
- Product Development Proposal
- Does the application clearly describe how and why tourists will be attracted to the proposed project?
- Outcomes and Costs
- How significant are the potential benefits compared to the proposed investment?
- Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging:
- Does the application clearly show how the proposed activity will foster a sense of belonging across diverse communities? Is the project accessible to all people? Does the application demonstrate efforts to attract a diverse audience?
