Details:

The Active and Thriving Community Grants Program assists certain small businesses and nonprofits experiencing negative economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is funded through the Federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) for qualifying small business and nonprofit organizations to (1) address and mitigate financial hardship; (2) implement COVID-19 prevention or mitigation tactics; or (3) both.

    • Family Child Care with 1-4 children- $2,000
    • Family Child Care with 5-12 Children– $5,000
    • Center based child care with 13-40 children- $10,000
    • Center based child care with 41-120 children- $15,000
    • Center based child care with over 121 children- $18,000
  • Safety-Net Community Based Organizations
    • Organizations with 0 to 24 full-time employee equivalents-$10,000
    • Organizations with more 25- 500 full time employees equivalents- $18,000
  • Out-of- School Time
    • 100–450 participant days- $2,000
    • 451-1350 participant days- $5,000
    • 1,351–2,000 participant days- $15,000
    • 2,001 or more participant days- $18,000
  • Youth Athletics
    • 1-100 Participants- $5,000
    • 101-1000 Participants- $10,000
    • Over 1001 Participants- $18,000
  • Community Pools
    • 0–2000 square feet- $2,500
    • 2001–10,000 square feet- $5,000
    • 10,001 or more square feet- $7,500

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, an applicant must be a small business or 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization operating in one or more of the following sectors:

  • Child care, which includes regulated centers and family child care homes;
  • Community-based organizations providing safety net services in one or more of the categories outlined in the Consolidated Community Funding Pool (CCFP);
  • Youth athletic programs within county-based organizations;
  • Out-of-school-time programs for youth grades K-12; or
  • Outdoor community pools located in HOAs and apartments/condominiums, as well as community membership-based pools.
  • Minimum small business eligibility for grant awards across all identified sectors include that the small business:
    • Must be established or have one or more location(s), including the principal place of business, in Fairfax County. Fairfax County includes the Towns of Herndon, Vienna and Clifton. The City of Falls Church and City of Fairfax are separate jurisdictions from Fairfax County and are excluded.
