PayPal and the San Jose Earthquakes share a deep-rooted commitment to helping small business owners achieve their dreams. As a cornerstone of their long-term partnership, the Support Our City program was designed to highlight local businesses based within their Bay Area communities. Whether these are restaurants, barber shops, or clothing stores, they are instrumental in defining the place they collectively call home.

Funding Information

For the 2023 season, PayPal will be awarding a $5,000 grant to three businesses in the region.

Eligibility Criteria 

The Grant Program is open only to legal residents of one of the fifty (50) United States or District of Columbia who:

  • are at least eighteen (18) years old;
  • have a U.S. PayPal or Venmo Account and valid business profile on PayPal or Venmo in good standing, at the time of application and through the time of any grant award; and
  • own a business; defined, for purposes of this Grant Program, as a business entity that is duly organized, validly existing and in good standing under the laws of one of the fifty (50) United States or District of Columbia) with its principle place of business within the San Francisco Bay Area that:
    • can promptly provide all government (i.e., secretary of state) documentation requested by Sponsors or Administrator to show proof of business status;
    • is active and has sold at least $500 worth of goods or services within the three (3) months prior to the start of the Grant Program Period
    • operates independently and is not owned or controlled by a holding company, parent corporation, or a subsidiary of any such entity. The business must maintain full autonomy and authority over its operations, decision-making processes, and financial matters. Establishing a U.S. PayPal or Venmo Account and valid business profile on either platform is free and conducting any transactions on PayPal or Venmo is not an eligibility criteria for this Grant Program.

Note: However, that employees of PayPal, Inc, the San Jose Earthquakes, or Merkle Inc., and any of their parent and affiliate companies as well as the immediate family (spouse, parents, siblings and children) and household members of each such employee are not eligible. The Grant Program is void where prohibited by law.
