Baltimore City Artist Recovery Grant (ARG) Program – Maryland

Applications are now open for the Baltimore City Artist Recovery Grant Award (ARG), administered by the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts (BOPA) on behalf of the city, to support Individual Artists impacted by the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Details: 

The City aims to provide grant funding to support individual professional artists that were in practice at the onset of the pandemic and who were impacted by the COVID-19 public health emergency. The ARG is open to individual artists at least 18 years old, living in the City of Baltimore. Funds will be administered based on need to artists/creatives that have a demonstrated high need of support.

Funding Information

$500,000 in Economic Recovery Funds will underwrite grant awards in the amount of $3,500 to select individual artists in the City of Baltimore

Eligible Artist Recovery Grant Expenses

  • Debt related to Art Practice
  • Personal well-being (shelter, medical expenses)
  • Procurement of arts equipment (supplies) and services (Job training up to 6 months)
  • All expenses not expressly mentioned are excluded. Prohibited costs include personal debt service payments, legal settlements or judgements including child support payments, costs reimbursed by another funding source, extraordinary deposits into pension or retirement funds, and deposits to financial reserves.

Eligibility Criteria

The ARG grant is open to individual artists practicing in the City of Baltimore. Funds will be administered based on need to artists/creatives that have a demonstrated high need of support. Individual Artist Grant applicants must meet all the following criteria:

  • Application must be complete with no missing information fields
  • Applicant must be a Baltimore City resident (prior to 2020 – present)
  • Applicant must be age 18 or older
  • Applicant’s art practice must be established prior to March 2020 (and operational for at least 1 year)
  • Applicant must describe how they intend to use grant funds to help to recover from hardship
  • Applicant must have an active bank account to receive grant award via direct deposit. BOPA will conduct a test deposit to verify the grantees’ bank account is operational.

Note: The Artist Recovery Grant is available to Individual Artists. Artists practicing under a LLC are not eligible for the Artist Recovery Grant. Artists practicing under a LLC are eligible to apply for Economic Recovery Funds for small businesses.
