California Microbusiness COVID-19 Relief Grant Program

The County of San Benito is receiving approximately $80 thousand from the California Microbusiness COVID-19 Relief Program (MBCRG) to aid very small businesses adversely affected by the pandemic.

Details:

Microbusinesses that face systemic barriers to access capital (including businesses owned by women, minorities, veterans, undocumented immigrants, individuals with limited English Proficiency, Business owners located in low wealth and rural communities, and others) will be encouraged to apply for the grants.

The County will partner with Economic Development Corporation of San Benito County and other community agencies to identify eligible microbusiness for the $80,077.79 in grant funding and to set up an application process.

Funding Information

The County Board of Supervisors accepted the grant and approved the County’s collaboration with community organizations to administer the program that will provide grants of $2,500 each to about 26 local microbusinesses.

Eligibility Criteria

For-profit businesses that meet the following criteria should apply:

  • Self-employed workers, independent contractors, sole proprietors, and corporations with no more than 5 employees in the 2019 &2020 taxable years.
  • Currently have no more than 5 employees
  • Gross Annual Revenue under $50, 000 (as reported for 2019)
  • In operation before December 31, 2019, and still in operation in 2022
  • Microbusiness was the primary source of revenue for the business owner
  • The microbusiness owner is the majority -owner and manager of the qualified microbusiness
  • Demonstrated decline in revenue or service demand due to COVID-19 in 2020 or 2021 as compared to 2019.
  • The microbusiness owner did not receive a grant under the California Small Business COVID-19 Relief Grant Program (Administered by Lendistry)
  • Operating within the County of San Benito

Non-profits may apply based on the following:

  • Operating within the County of San Benito
  • Operating in 2019 with at least $1,000 in revenue
  • Still in operation with nonprofit 501(c)(3), 501(c)(6), or 501(c)(19) status and currently registered with the California Secretary of State
  • Proof of revenue with a 990 filing and current registration
  • Did not receive funding from the California Small Business COVID-19 Relief Grant (Administered by Lendistry)
