Call for Applications for Justice Reinvestment Equity Program (Oregon)

Dated: November 10, 2022

Are you part of a culturally specific or culturally responsive organization or group that is committed to reducing incarceration, promoting healing and advancing community safety in Oregon? Northwest Health Foundation (NWHF) invites your group to apply for their Learning Community to help plan the Justice Reinvestment Equity Program (JREP).

Donor Name: Northwest Health Foundation

State: Oregon

Counties: Selected Counties

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 12/08/2022

Size of the Grant: $10,000

Details:

The Justice Reinvestment Equity Program (JREP) is an opportunity to address the historic underinvestment in culturally specific organizations and culturally responsive providers that serve the communities most harmed and least helped by Oregon’s criminal justice system. It is an opportunity to uplift organizations historically overlooked by traditional funding streams and to promote a new vision for community safety that invests in social supports and healing over prisons and punishment.

REP will provide up to $6 million in grants to support a field of both emerging and experienced culturally specific organizations and culturally responsive providers that serve their communities in ways that are respectful of, and relevant to, their beliefs, practices, cultures, and linguistic needs, in particular organizations that serve communities experiencing high rates of incarceration.

JREP will also spend around $2 million for grantees to participate in a robust capacity building program. This program will offer hands-on coaching and technical assistance for grantees interested in building their organizational capacity.

Program Goals and Priorities

JREP seeks to build a thriving ecosystem of culturally specific organizations and culturally responsive providers that are working to:

  • Reduce racial disparities in Oregon’s criminal justice system,
  • Promote healing for victims and survivors of violence,
  • Ensure that people returning from prison or jail have the opportunity to succeed, and/or
  • Decrease prison use in Oregon.

Program/Service Priorities

The programs and services we seek to prioritize include:

  • Violence reduction programs (e.g., violence interruption mentors, after-school programs for youth),
  • Re-entry programs that are connected to education, workforce development, and transitional supports, and
  • Services for victims, including incarcerated victims or victims on pretrial release.
