According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the primary objective of the Community Development Block Grant program is to provide for “the development of viable communities by the provision of decent housing, a suitable living environment, and expanding economic opportunities, principally for persons of low and moderate income.”
In order for a project to receive CDBG funding, it must qualify as an “eligible activity” and qualify as being in pursuit of one of three “national objectives.”
Three national objectives:
- Benefitting low- and moderate-income persons
- Preventing or eliminating slums or blight
- Meeting other community development needs having a particular urgency because existing conditions pose a serious and immediate threat to the health or welfare of the community and other financial resources are not available to meet such needs.
Funding Information
- Most organizations receive between $5,000-$25,000, and no organization can apply for more than 3 separate projects for funding.
- CDBG funding that would be provided for activities undertaken between July 1, 2023-June 30, 2024.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible applicants include, but are not limited to: private/public nonprofits, community-based organizations, local public agencies as well as certain microenterprises and other private entities with activities that meet eligibility requirements and national objectives established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
