Façade Improvement Grant to encourage Business and Property Owners (Illinois)

Details:

The program is to encourage business and property owners to make their own investment into façade improvements within the TIF and downtown areas of Round Lake. To provide financial and technical assistance to façade and related exterior improvements.

The Round Lake Façade Improvement Grant is intended for commercial and industrial businesses who wish to improve the exterior of their building. To be eligible applicants must make significant improvements that are visible from the street.

Funds will be awarded on first-come-first-serve and case by case basis. Priority is given to those in downtown and those who are first time applicants. Applicants who have applied for but not received a grant in a previous year will be considered a first-time applicant.  Multiple projects may be chosen depending on the applications received and funds available. Reimbursement will be given contingent on application approval and will be awarded until the funds have been allocated for the program year.  Village Staff may accept parts of an application or make other suggestions of project work.

Funding Information

The owner or responsible tenant must have a project cost greater than $5,000 and provide proof of matching funds.

Eligible Projects

Eligible projects may include, but are not limited to the following examples:

  • Façade cleaning
  • Installation or restoration of architectural features
  • Awnings and canopies
  • Masonry including tuckpointing
  • Painting
  • Windows and doors; doorways and entrances
  • Exterior lighting
  • Roofs visible from street
  • ADA improvements

Ineligible projects

  • Interior remodeling
  • Work capital, refinancing, legal fees, property acquisition, equipment or inventory
  • Sprinkler system
  • Flat roofs or other work not visible from public space
  • Parking lots
  • Landscaping Improvements made prior to approval for program eligibility

Requirements

Please including the following items in your application:

  • Current digital photos of all building facades visible from the public right of way which will receive improvements.
  • Sample colors and materials
  • Proof of commitment – including owner consent if not the applicant
  • Letter of commitment with interest in program, details of project including description, plan/drawings, timeline, and cost in the form of a quote or estimate.
  • Provide copy of contract and quotes of project.
  • Apply for appropriate building permit, if applicable. Permit cost may be waived.
  • Applicant will be required to show proof of payment through paid invoices/bills after project in completed, before the reimbursement will be distributed.

Participating property owners and tenants must not be in default of any Village fees and must not have any outstanding building, zoning, or Village code violations on any properties owned/occupied by them within the Village limits.

Projects started before approval will not be eligible for grant program.
