These grants are intended to build the leadership or staff capacity of an organization via some type of professional or leadership development activity including training, conferences, or certifications. These activities must be in the areas of equity, and/or social justice and align with the Commission’s Strategic Plan and Social Justice and Racial Equity Statement. Examples of capacity building activities include:
- Organizational Capacity Building:
- A series of workshops, training, learning communities, or meetings focused on equity and social justice in order to increase the capacity of organizations to connect with and serve clients in a way that leads to longer-term impacts.
- A series of activities or events that lead to an equity and/or social justice-related organization or staff certification.
- Communication:
- A series of workshops, learning communities, or meetings centered on increasing public engagement and awareness; media coverage; public will; political will; and or policy changes around equity and social justice issues specific to children 0-5 and their families.
- Cross-Agency Collaboration and Planning:
- A series of workshops, learning communities, or meetings focused on improving shared goals around equity and social justice; development of MOUs across systems; cross-system training and sharing; shared competencies or skills standards.
Funding Information
The total amount of funding available for FY 22-23 is $45,000, in anticipation of awarding three (3) $15,000 grants.
Timeframe
July 2022 – June 2023.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants are eligible if they:
- are located within Santa Barbara County or operate out of another county but serve a majority of their clients in Santa Barbara County;
- Are not currently being funded by First 5 Santa Barbara County;
- Have not applied for and received a First 5 grant for the same activity or purpose in the past.
