The NextFifty Initiative is seeking applications for its Sudden & Urgent Need Grant to address one-time, time-sensitive needs for small nonprofit organizations in Colorado.

Details:

NextFifty Initiative is committed to social equity and expects grantees to demonstrate performance accountability that is free from discrimination on the basis of age, race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, color, religion, national origin, disability, military status, genetic information, or any other protected status. In addition, NextFifty Initiative seeks proposals that focus on the most underserved in the aging sector including but not limited to: communities of color, disabled, homeless, LGBTQ+, low-income, rural, immigrant/refugee, and other marginalized and/or vulnerable communities.

What will NextFifty Initiative consider funding

Grant requests must intentionally focus on the aging or the aging-disabled population age 50 and over, or the caregivers of these populations.

NextFifty will consider requests for:

  • One-time expenses that are unanticipated and time-sensitive
  • Requests up to $30,000

Who can apply?

Only nonprofit entities based in Colorado, organized under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code, with an organizational budget of $1 million or less, and serving adults 50 and older, are eligible to apply for SUN Grants. Excludes government entities and universities.

What will not be considered for funding?

  • Support for ongoing programs or project-based requests
  • Support for annual, anticipated expenses such as an audit
  • Personnel costs or consultant fees unless directly related to the implementation of a one-time, time-sensitive need that fits within the SUN Grant guidelines
  • Indirect costs
  • General operating support
  • Budgetary shortfalls or debt reduction
  • Membership dues
  • Organization endowments and fundraising ventures
  • Routine convening/event (e.g. quarterly or annual meetings)
  • Routine travel expenses (e.g. regular staff travel)
  • Requests that involve payment or reimbursement of individual medical bills, rent assistance, mortgage assistance, and household utility bills
  • Lobbying, political campaigns, and projects with the goal of supporting a specific political position
  • Fundraising and general event sponsorships
  • Type III non-functionally integrated supporting organizations (as classified by IRS form 990, Schedule A, Part 1)
  • Government entities
  • Universities
  • LLCs or for-profit organizations
  • Nonprofits with an organizational budget of over $1 million
  • Student or fellow tuition costs
  • Disease-specific laboratory research
