The Council is committed to funding a diverse cross-section of activities. They support a variety of art forms, science and the humanities that serve a broad population such as the elderly, youths, disabled veterans, adults and low income.
Applications are evaluated in terms of several review criteria:
- The venue must be physically accessible;
- Applicants must be from Massachusetts and preference is shown to those grantees from Hardwick and New Braintree;
- Applicants must have a Local Sponsor, a Letter of Support and a date for your event otherwise your approval will be conditional;
- The Council only gives grants to applicants who have secured a local venue, which can be in Hardwick, New Braintree, Barre (Listening Wellness Center, Senior Center) or Ware (Workshop13-contact them for more information and costs), otherwise your approval is conditional.

Applicants must reside or be located in Massachusetts. Local Cultural Councils may accept applications from anyone included in the following list:
- Individuals
- Incorporated private nonprofit organizations
- Unincorporated associations that can establish a nonprofit objective
- Public schools, libraries, other municipal agencies, and the Local Cultural Council itself
- Religious organizations.
