HRCF: Advancing Equity Grant Opportunity in Virginia

The Hampton Roads Community Foundation is pleased to offer a grant opportunity focused on racial equity that provides operating support for grassroots nonprofit organizations that have not typically received competitive community grants.

Details:

These grants may be used to fund any aspect of the nonprofit’s mission, including day-to-day operations. As one-year, non-renewable grants, they are targeted at nonprofits that primarily serve communities of color and provide programs and services to neighborhoods in Chesapeake, Franklin, Isle of Wight County, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and Virginia Beach. Preference will be given to organizations that demonstrate a commitment to racial equity as a core component of their services and programming.

Awards will typically range from $2,000-$10,000.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The application is open to 501(c)3 nonprofits that meet Hampton Roads Community Foundation’s eligibility requirements, except that these grants will fund operating support. Organizations associated with fraternal organizations will not be considered.
  • An applicant must be in good standing as a 5oilc)(3) public charity with the IRS since August 1. 2020.
  • The organization’s operating budget must be $150.000 or less.
  • The applicant must be BIPOC-serving 51% or more of the clients served are Black. Indigenous. and People of Color.
  • The organization must have four board members excluding the Executive Director or CEO of the organization.
  • The organization must submit audited financials. a full ggo. a ggo EZ or a ggON with a profit and loss statement for the budget year. A profit and loss statement includes the organization’s revenues and expenses to date for the year.
  • Organizations that have a current Hampton Roads Community Foundation community grant may apply for this opportunity and applying for this grant will not impact your ability to apply for a Community Grant or Special Interest Grant for which you are otherwise eligible.
  • Organizations with a mission that falls outside of the Foundation’s grant guidelines are eligible to apply.
