The Missoula Board of County Commissioners created the Rural Grant Program to support community-driven projects that enhance the quality of life in the rural areas of Missoula County.
Projects must meet a demonstrated need or demand, be a community benefit, have community support and have a broad impact.
Funding Information
- Grant awards range from a minimum of $501 to a maximum of $4,000.
- Project must be located in Missoula County, outside of the City of Missoula limits.
- Applications submitted will be evaluated and decisions made by the County Commissioners.
- Grant awards dependent upon funds available in the budget. No guarantees are made that applications will be funded.

Eligible entities are 501(c)3 not-for-profit organizations, citizen groups, community councils, individuals, schools and special districts.
Evaluation Criteria
- Demonstrated Need. Describe the need or demand for the project and state why it is important. Make sure to clearly identify which community or rural area will benefit from this project.
- Community Benefit. Describe how the project will make a positive difference for the community. Include who and how many people the project will serve, and how the project benefits that population.
- Community Support. Submit at least three (3) letters of support from a community organization or from community members who are not related to the project leader.
- Project Impact. Describe the impact the project will have in the community. Think big picture – what is the ripple effect of this project?
