The Cities of Monmouth and Independence are providing an opportunity for local non-profits to submit a youth recreation grant for the purpose of providing school recreation programming to K-12 youth residing within the Central School District 13J boundaries.

Programs that demonstrate an ability to engage and serve low-income, BIPOC and other underserved populations within their community are particularly encouraged. Projects that can demonstrate a strong likelihood of sustainability after grant funds are exhausted will be preferred.
Funding Information
This program has a total of $75,000 to award to successful applicants. No more than $15,000 will be awarded to a single awardee.
Eligible Projects
Examples of eligible projects include:
- Staff and equipment costs to launch cooking, music, painting, or similar classes for youth.
- Providing scholarships for youth to participate in athletic or other recreation programs.
- Purchasing equipment such as soccer goals, pitching machines, protective equipment, etc. allows more youth to participate on an athletic team or enables coaches to manage larger groups more efficiently.
- Staff, transportation, and equipment costs for hiking, paddling, or other outdoor excursions.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations whose principal place of business is in Independence or Monmouth, or who have an established presence in Independence or Monmouth. Awardees may use grant funds to contract with for-profit businesses to provide the eligible activity. Preference will be given to organizations that have experience providing the type of recreational programming for which funding is sought.
