Artists may apply for funding for any of the four mental health and wellness programs below. Grants are available for $250 and $750 (which provides for a $75 per week stipend to cover the listed treatments below for 10 weeks.) Artists may apply once every 30 days for up to three rounds of each grant, pending available funding.
- Professional Counseling: $750 (Estimated # of Awards: 37)
- 1:1 Therapy: Virtual or in-person one-on-one therapy sessions are available from licensed therapists in central Indiana and through national platforms at an average of $60 – $120, while those with health insurance often pay a range of $20 – $60 if a co-pay is required.
- Support Groups: Support groups are offered for artists and for other like minded groups. Artists may choose their support group and apply for funding to attend. Therapists may apply for funding and offer a minimum of six artists free admission to the group.
- Creative Therapy: $250 (Estimated # of Awards: 69)
- Art Therapy: Artists may choose to participate in cross-disciplinary art therapy. For example, a musician or writer may choose a visual art based therapy or a visual artist may choose music therapy.
- Wellness and Mindfulness: Artists may choose non-therapy options such as yoga, meditation, consumer/community based arts classes, mindfulness coaching, and similar options.
Funding Information
They range from $250 to $750 and can be used for one-on-one therapy, support groups, art therapy, and wellness and mindfulness practices.
Eligibility Criteria
Artists must:
- be 18 years of age or older.
- be able to provide a W9 and Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).
- be a resident of one of the following counties, which are within the Arts Council of Indianapolis’ service area: Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Marion, Morgan, Johnson, Shelby.
- have worked professionally in the arts for at least 2 years.
- have work in the arts that is NOT based in commercial work such as event photography, commercial video production, commercial graphic design, etc.
- (prior to the COVID-19 health crisis) have made at least 40% of their income from working in the arts, or spent at least 40% of their professional activity (creative practice) working in the arts.*
- *If you are an artist/creative working at a professional level and in a way that does not traditionally create substantial income (social practice art, highly conceptual/experimental art, etc.)
