Kohler Foundation’s Grant Program (Wisconsin)

Dated: August 25, 2022

Kohler Foundation’s grant program helps support new initiatives in education and the arts in Sheboygan County.

Donor Name: Kohler Foundation

State: Wisconsin

County: Sheboygan County (WI)

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 09/15/2022

Grant Size: up to $5,000

Details:

Kohler Foundation, Inc. (KFI) supports arts and education initiatives as its overall mission. Their grant committee is tasked with wisely distributing grants on an annual basis for charitable, tax-exempt purposes related to the arts and education. The grant committee operates with a set of priorities that guides its funding:

  • Their main interest is in arts and education programs in the Sheboygan County region, run by organizations both known and new to KFI which have ethical and sound management practices and plans for sustainability of the programs beyond KFI’s support.
  • From time to time they also support arts and education programs in other small communities around the state of Wisconsin, particularly those which have already been the recipients of KFI investment through its other program areas (e.g. Art Preservation), and very small towns or rural areas where there is little other philanthropic capital available.
  • Within the fields of arts and education, a few particular types of programs are of special interest KFI’s grant committee, including: STEAM initiatives (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics); Increasing access to the arts (e.g. transportation, visiting artists/distance learning, rural outreach, technology); Programs which have a specific plan to create an impact of greater proportion than a small grant might initially reflect.
  • Requests for technology and equipment may receive funding occasionally, but not on an ongoing basis.
  • KFI receives many more requests than it can support; successful requests often feature the following strengths: forethought about program planning, realistic goals for program impact, and a compelling case for the necessity of the program.
  • KFI does not fund grant requests that are solely for general operating support (e.g. salaries, overhead). KFI also does not generally make grants to projects outside of Wisconsin or in metro areas outside Sheboygan County. Finally, Kohler Foundation grants are not awarded for fundraising drives, capital campaigns or building projects, or event sponsorships. They cannot respond to standardized fundraising appeals.
