The FARE Grant Program is a Linn County American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funded project administered by the Linn County Food Systems Council to replace lost public sector revenue in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
FARE Grants will provide simple and strategic access to funding for individuals and organizations working in food access, sustainability, and capacity building, with the goal of:
- Increasing access to local and healthy foods,
- Promoting equity within the food system,
- Building capacity to handle future food related challenges
- Enhancing environmental quality and the natural resources,
- Growing the economic viability of Linn County’s food system operations; and
- Improving the quality of life for Linn County residents and society as a whole.
Priorities
- Priority is given to funding requests for projects that are self-sustaining after the initial project is completed.
- Priority is given to funding requests that bolster Linn County local food system or have a focus on local food production, procurement, processing, and markets.
- Priority is given to local food projects for underserved populations.
- Funding priority goes to applicants who have not received ARPA funding.
Type of Projects
Projects could include (but are not limited to):
- A refrigerator truck for a food pantry
- A high tunnel hoop house for a farm (Hoop houses do not meet Cedar Rapids City Code)
- Reestablishing a brick and mortar restaurant
- Growing a value added processing business Food-focused educational programs

- he maximum amount you can apply for in Round 2 is $10,000.
Eligibility Criteria
FARE grants will support food related businesses and nonprofit organizations in Linn County that:
- Continue to play a key role in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic;
- Promote public health and wellness; and
- Address systemic food related challenges.
Eligible entities include, but are not limited to farmers, processors, packagers, distributors, grocers, educators, administrators., social service agencies, nonprofits, food pantries, restaurants, food entrepreneurs, and food innovators.
