The purpose of the Marion Cultural Council is to promote excellence, access, education, and diversity in the arts, humanities, and interpretive sciences (STEM) in order to improve the quality of life for area residents.

Local Priorities
Marion’s number one priority is to promote access to MCC funds to projects that will directly improve the quality of life for those living in and around the town of Marion. Using data from their latest community input survey the council will prioritize the following when making decisions using the top responses from Marion citizens.
- The grant will directly benefit a significant amount of Marion’s residence.
- Community-wide gatherings/festivals
- Performing arts
- Visual arts
- Educational Programs and field trips for local schools
- Nature and environmental education projects / STEM-related projects
- Projects celebrating local history and cultural diversity
- Public Art (such as sculptures, etc.)
- Art education
- Education/lectures
They will also be considering funding for projects that prioritize specific segments of the community:
- Families
- Children
- Seniors, particularly reduced-rate events
- Adults
- Persons with disabilities
- Minorities
- Communities of immigrants
Marion Cultural Council does not have the ability to provide locations for grantees. All grantees should provide the location of their event as well as an approximate date. If working with a school or community organization the council requires that the applicant provide a statement of support from said school/organization.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must reside or be located in Massachusetts. Local Cultural Councils may accept applications from anyone included in the following list:
- Individuals: Individual applicants must show that a public benefit results from the project for which they are applying. A public presentation of an individual’s work may provide the needed public benefit. Individual members of Local Cultural Councils may apply for funding from a Local Cultural Council but must observe all conflict-of-interest laws and regulations in the granting process. Local Cultural Councils may also establish their own rules regarding applications from council members as long as these are consistent with the state’s conflict of interest laws.
- Incorporated private nonprofit organizations.
- Unincorporated associations that can establish a nonprofit objective. A group of individuals coming together with a common purpose (e.g., local community band, theater group) that do not have nonprofit status.
- Public schools, libraries, other municipal agencies, and the Local Cultural Council itself.
- Religious organizations. Religious organizations or groups with a religious affiliation are eligible to apply for funding for cultural programming that is available to the general public. LCCs can only approve applications that are primarily cultural in their intent and do not have the effect of advancing religion.
