The Nutrition Incentive Program Training, Technical Assistance, Evaluation, and Information Center (NTAE) is pleased to make available grants between $5,000 and $25,000 each for capacity building support to organizations who have not yet applied to or not yet successfully been awarded a Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP) or Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentive (FINI) award.
This new opportunity is designed to provide capacity building support for GusNIP application development and is eligible only to the following groups:
- Organizations who have never applied to the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP) or Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentive (FINI) award.
- Organizations who have never been awarded a Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP) or Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentive (FINI) award
Organizations that are interested in applying for a future GusNIP Nutrition Incentive or Produce Prescription grant are welcome to apply.
The Hub is also seeking applicants from the following priority geographies: Tribal Communities, Guam, U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, and Common wealth of the Northern Marianas Islands, Idaho, Wyoming, Delaware, Maine, New Hampshire, North Dakota, and Vermont.
Capacity Building Activities
Interested and eligible applicants will be able to apply for funds to assist them with the following capacity building activities in support of the development of a future GusNIP application:
- Grant writing support –
- These funds will be used to pay for an external or internal grant writer to assist the organization in writing and submitting a complete GusNIP application. Funds could also be used to participate in a grant-writing training to assist internal staff in applying.
- Financial system update –
- These funds will be used to pay for an external or internal finance person or organization to assist the organization with making necessary updates to its finance system in preparation for meeting the NIFA financial reporting requirements.
- Coalition building –
- These funds will be used for an organization to facilitate meetings with potential GusNIP partner organizations or healthcare partners to develop the nutrition incentive or produce prescription project and proposal.
- Strategic planning –
- These funds will be used for organizations to undertake planning activities (conducting a SWOT or gap analysis, reviewing best practices in program design, building partnerships, hiring a program design strategist) to develop a nutrition incentive or produce prescription project proposal.
- Other –
- If you have other significant needs that will assist you in being able to successfully submit and operate a GusNIP project, please describe them here. Your needs should directly contribute to the development and submission of your GusNIP application for FY23 or FY24.
Eligible Expenses
Allowable expenses under the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP) include staff, technology, supplies, marketing, postage, stipends for surveys/ interviews, and travel incurred between award notification and August 31, 2023. Applications may include relevant expenses incurred by the organization’s outreach and retail partners.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be registered as either a government agency or non-profit organization. If you are the primary awardee of a GusNIP, FINI, GusNIP COVID Relief and Response (GusCRR), or American Rescue Plan (ARPA) award, you are not eligible for this opportunity. If you are a current or past sub awardee of a GusNIP / FINI/ GusCRR/ ARPA grantee, you are eligible to apply.
