Purpose of the Program
The purpose of this initiative is to provide assistance for those concerned with research integrity to meet to discuss theoretical, empirical, research design, educational, legal, procedural, ethical, and other aspects related to promoting the responsible conduct of research, preventing research misconduct, and/or addressing issues that arise after an allegation of research misconduct is brought forward at an institution.
For the purposes of this announcement, a conference is defined as a meeting, retreat, seminar, symposium, workshop, or event whose primary purpose is the dissemination of technical information beyond the recipient. Per 45 C.F.R. § 75.432, “conference hosts/sponsors must exercise discretion and judgment in ensuring that conference costs are appropriate, necessary and managed in a manner that minimizes costs to the Federal award.” Applicants may seek additional sources of funding and institutional support to fund the proposed conference. Proposed conferences should be substantially distinct from and not duplicate existing ORI activities. This funding opportunity does not support projects with the primary purpose of developing, implementing, and/or running courses that require matriculation or employment at a specific institution or organization.
Proposed conferences must be related to at least one of the following themes:
- fostering an environment that promotes research integrity and the responsible conduct of research;
- prevention of research misconduct;
- effective handling of research misconduct allegations;
- training in the responsible conduct of research; or
- other topics linked to research integrity and compliance with 42 C.F.R. Part 93.
