Their goal is to provide the resources needed to fund vital community-level activities in cancer prevention (including education or vaccination) or screening. The proposed projects must be aligned with their mission to support community projects or programs across the United States (including tribes and territories) that focus on helping to prevent cancer or find it earlier and that demonstrate a potential to make a positive impact in communities that are underserved and/or disproportionately impacted.
Eligible applications may be related to education and screening for breast/chest, cervical, colorectal, anal, or lung cancer, or education and vaccination preventing liver cancer or HPV-related cancers. Projects focused on skin cancer prevention and education, as well as tobacco cessation and education for people in LGBTQ+ communities are also welcome. Applicant groups should describe how they are specifically working with people in the LGBTQ+ community to address health-related disparities and barriers in this population. Involvement of community advisory boards is encouraged.
Funding Information
They will provide $25,000 in one-year grants for organizations that will develop new or implement existing community projects/programs in cancer prevention and early detection.
Eligible Projects
- Projects focused on educating people in the LGBTQ+ community on screening recommendations for breast/chest, cervical, colorectal, or lung cancer
- Utilization of community advisory boards to develop materials to raise awareness and increase cancer screenings and vaccination among people in the LGBTQ+ community.
- Provider training for effective cancer prevention and early detection outreach
- Vaccination projects for people in the LGBTQ+ community for HPV or hepatitis B or testing or education projects (with referrals) for hepatitis B or hepatitis C. Projects on HPV vaccination can also include education on HPV-related cancers and risks.
- Other projects focused on education about sun safety and skin cancer, as well as risk reduction involving tobacco cessation in LGBTQ+ communities
Eligibility Criteria
The following organizations are eligible to apply for a 2022 Community Grants award:
- Nonprofit organizations that are exempt under Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code
- Independent sponsored projects of a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization acting as a fiscal sponsor
- Government and public agencies
- Tax-exempt tribal organizations and fraternal or social organizations
- Organizations based in the United States, including tribes or territories. Groups located outside the U.S. are not eligible to apply.
- Only one application may be submitted by an organization.
- Both small independent organizations and ones which are part of larger “parent” organizations are eligible to apply. Applicants must demonstrate how a grant award would provide needed support for vital community-level activities in cancer prevention (including education or vaccination) or screening, in underserved communities.
