Submit Applications for Share Your Story Video Challenge (Alabama)

Does your nonprofit work with low-income members in the Greater Huntsville area? If so, the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville invites you to participate in the fifth annual video grant competition, now known as Share Your Story Video Challenge.

As a way to share their message and connect with and support those with similar core beliefs, they began an annual video grant contest to mobilize the generosity of a corporate donor through $1,000 unrestricted operation grants for nonprofits in the Greater Huntsville area who support low-income members of their community.

The Share Your Story Video Challenge will provide grant funding to organizations serving low income members of their community.

$1,000 – This year they have funding to award a total of $25,000 (twenty-five $1,000 unrestricted operations grants) to organizations serving low-income members of their community.

Greater Huntsville, Alabama (Jackson, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, and Morgan Counties)

Eligibility Criteria

All grants from this Fund must be made for charitable, religious, scientific, literary, or educational purposes to any organization that is described Code Section 170(c)(2), 501(c)(3), 2055(a)(2) or 2522(a)(2) (except for private foundations as defined by Code Section 509(a)) (“qualified organization”). Qualified organizations also include schools, religious institutions, or government agencies located in the Greater Huntsville area.

Rules and Guidelines:

  • This challenge is limited to organizations serving residents of the Greater Huntsville area (Jackson, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, and Morgan County).
  • Even if your scope is broader, this challenge must specifically spotlight the work that your organization is doing to serve low-income members of their community.
  • Your video must not exceed 60 seconds.
  • No copyrighted materials (music, images, etc.) may be used for this challenge unless you own the copyright or have a license to use the material for this purpose. Written permission must be obtained and provided upon request for all copyrighted materials.
  • Make a specific reference to how you serve the low-income members of their community in your video.
  • Include an impact story in your video.

How to Apply

To accept the Share Your Story Video Challenge and be considered for a $1,000 grant, complete the following steps.

  • Submit an application through this online grant portal so that they have your contact information.
  • Create a brief, sixty-second video.
  • In your video, share at least one story of impact that demonstrates how your organization serves low-income members of their community.
  • Post your video across your social channels (including Facebook), and make the video “public” so that it can be shared. You must tag the Community Foundation with @CFHuntsville and use the hashtag #ShareYourStory on your post.
  • Share and engage with your posts to spread your message.

Recommendations

Here are some tips to make your Share Your Story video the best it can be.

  • Shoot the video on location if possible.
  • Shoot horizontally so that it is optimal for social sharing.
  • Use a microphone if possible.
  • Be aware of background sounds – traffic, crowds, etc. – that can compete with your message.
  • Be enthusiastic! You are doing great things for their community; don’t be afraid to share your story.
  • Make sure it’s clear what the purpose of your organization or this program does. If someone has never heard of you, would they have an understanding from your video?
  • Include impact numbers, such as number served
  • Tell your story through spoken and written word on screen
