Thrive Grants to encourage Artists in Oklahoma

Dated: May 23, 2023

The Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition (OVAC) is thrilled to be invited to participate in The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts’ Regional Regranting Program to further support artists’ innovation throughout Oklahoma.

Donor Name: Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition

State: Oklahoma

County: All Counties

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 06/01/2023

Size of the Grant: up to $10,000

Details:

Thrive Grants will provide funding up to $10,000 for artist-led, collaborative projects, and programs from across the state of Oklahoma that are open and accessible to the public. The funded projects must be ambitious, impactful, and experimental with a central focus on the VISUAL ARTS. As COVID-19 is limiting in-person events, this public-facing program may also be accessed digitally via a live stream, digital meeting, website, or another virtually accessible platform. The grants will prioritize artist projects that create new collaborations, connections, and partnerships. This cross-disciplinary approach strengthens outcomes and fuels creativity.

This opportunity builds upon their existing dedication to support artist-led initiatives and their belief in the power of artists to create a positive impact in communities. This new Thrive Grants program encourages artists to take risks and engage audiences in new ways. They believe artists throughout Oklahoma have the creativity and potential to push the boundaries of their state’s visual culture, and this fund will offer them the opportunity to thrive in ways not previously possible.

Funding Information

Thrive is an annual award program that funds 8 artists’ projects with grants of up to $10,000.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The proposed project must have a central focus on the visual arts. Artistic practices firmly rooted in dance, theatre, music, or industry/feature filmmaking are not eligible to apply.
  • The proposed project must be publicly accessible and push the boundaries of the traditional exhibition experience. Be sure to think outside the box and put an emphasis on how to interact with your audience.
  • All events associated with your project must take place in Oklahoma and before the presentation at the end of the funding period.
  • For collaborative projects, the individual who submits the project proposal will serve as the Lead Applicant and a detailed timeline and budget must be included.
  • Artists currently enrolled as a student in an MFA/BFA or are seeking enrollment in the arts during the award year are not eligible to apply as a Lead Applicant but are allowed to be a collaborator.
  • The Lead Applicant and the majority of the collaborators must reside in Oklahoma.
  • Successful applicants may apply after one calendar year of funding receipt but must propose a new project or an expansion of previous work. You will not be disqualified for continuing to grow and develop the visual arts of Oklahoma but please note that preference will be shown to creative projects that have not received funding in the past.
  • 501c3 organizations or for-profit corporations are not eligible to apply. Artists with an LLC are eligible to apply.
  • Awarded applicants must participate in the Thrive reception in June 2024, the following year, to present their project to the public.
