Tidal Shift Award : A Prize for Young Artists who want to Solve our Climate Crisis

The Tidal Shift Award aims to leverage the power of socially-aware artworks, awarding and platforming teenagers and young adults who are focused on solutions for climate change.

They are currently accepting submissions of artworks that relate to the climate crisis through theme, subject matter, solutions, and more. Together, they can showcase the artworks that can influence, motivate, and galvanize their communities to do more to address their environment.

The Tidal Shift Award is open to all young artists in the Northeast region (Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont, the Abenaki, Adena culture, Accohannock, Assateague, Choptank people, Conoy, Erie, Etchemin, Ho-Chunk, Honniasont, Housatonic, Iroquois Confederacy, Laurentian, Lenni Lenape, Maliseet, Micmac, Mohegan, Narragansett, Nauset, Nipmuc, Passamaquoddy, Pennacook, Penobscot, Pequot, Wabanaki, Wampanoag, and Woronoco nations) between the ages of 14 and 22, to create a work of art contemplating an issue and/or a solution to a crisis facing your community resulting from climate change. Participants can use any medium (e.g. painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, video, all works of paper) and young artists of any ethnic or racial identity, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ability are encouraged to apply.

Funding Information

Cash prizes will be awarded in two divisions (three (3) prizes awarded per division):

  • Division 1: Ages 14-18, $2,500
  • Division 2: Ages 19-22, $5,000

Eligibility Requirements

Except as stated herein, anyone who at the time of entry is between the ages of 14 and 22 and lives in the Northeast region (Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont, the Abenaki, Adena culture, Accohannock, Assateague, Choptank people, Conoy, Erie, Etchemin, Ho-Chunk, Honniasont, Housatonic, Iroquois Confederacy, Laurentian, Lenni Lenape, Maliseet, Micmac, Mohegan, Narragansett, Nauset, Nipmuc, Passamaquoddy, Pennacook, Penobscot, Pequot, Wabanaki, Wampanoag, and Woronoco nations) is eligible to participate in the Tidal Shift Competition. Division placement will be determined by the age of the participant at the time of submission. The following participants are not eligible for juried cash prizes: employees, contractors, consultants, directors and officers of the Organizers, their affiliated companies, distributors, web design, advertising, fulfillment, judging and agencies involved in the administration, development, fulfillment and execution of the Tidal Shift Competition and the immediate family members of each (spouse, parent, child, sibling, grandparent, and spouse or “step” of each) and those living in their same households (those persons whether related or not who live in the same residence for at least three months during the twelve-month period preceding the start date of the Tidal Shift Competition).
