The program also invites proposals for general operating grants to arts nonprofits. Eligible applicants may only apply for one grant—either a project grant or an operating grant.
Priority Areas
They are especially interested in projects and organizations that respond creatively to the following:
- Expanding access to the arts and cultural activities for all Vermonters
This might include, for example, projects that engage individuals with limited access to the arts due to age, ability, income, race, geography, or other factors. - Creative placemaking
They welcome projects that re-envision public spaces and strengthen community identity through the arts

- Project Grant
- Grant amounts range from $1,000 to $4,000.
- Projects cannot begin before September 1, 2022.
- Projects must end by or before August 31, 2023.
- Operating Grant
- Grant amounts range from $1,000 to $4,000.
Eligible Projects
For project grants, examples of fundable projects include:
- performances, exhibits, screenings, readings, fairs, public art projects, and festivals that focus on including new audiences
- program improvements that enable people with disabilities to participate
- public art projects that commission an artist for the creation of new work where the community is engaged in the planning, presentation, and/or fabrication
- creative experiences that are designed to include a specific group of a certain age, income, gender, race, ability, or to encourage interaction among these groups
Eligibility Criteria
- Arts organizations may apply for project funding or an operating grant (but not both)
- Vermont nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, agencies of state government, counties, and municipalities are eligible to apply for project grants
- Organizations that received a Cultural Relief Grant, a Cultural Recovery Grant, Vermont Economic Recovery Grants, or other forms of state or federal COVID relief are eligible to apply for this program.
