The Community Foundation has three field of interest environmental funds in Agricultural and Land Preservation, the Codorus Watershed and Sustainable Energy. Each fund is staffed with volunteer committees who steward the grant funds to have the highest environmental impact in York County.
- Codorus Watershed: The Codorus Watershed fund was established in 2001 and works to develop strategic direction and action plans to build on the work of existing watershed improvement programs and leverage new public and private investment to improve the health and vitality of the Codorus and its environs.
- Agriculture and Land Preservation: The Agriculture and Land Preservation fund supports education, study, and research in agriculture to improve farms, farming and land preservation in York County. Current priority areas are strategic land preservation and supporting the economic welfare of farmers.
- Sustainable Energy: The Sustainable Energy Fund provides education and technical assistance to help nonprofit organizations and municipal entities conserve energy and reduce operating costs. The fund is currently exploring large-scale demonstration projects to transform the way York Countians think about energy conservation.
Funding Information
- Codorus Watershed: Applicants may apply for a grant up to $15,000.
- Sustainable Energy Fund will match funds up to $5,000 per project.
Who is Eligible?
Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations, government agencies or public school districts. The following is the criteria for a qualifying organization:
- If a nonprofit, must be classified as a 501(c) (3) public charity under the Internal Revenue Code (this does not apply to government agencies or public school districts). Individuals are not qualified applicants.
- If a nonprofit, must have 501(c) (3) status for at least one year.
- Must provide services directly to York County.
- Must be up-to-date on any active interim or post-grant reports before applying for a new grant.
Grants are NOT provided for:
- Endowments, capital campaigns, budget shortfalls, normal operations, debt retirement or association dues.
- Sectarian religious programs.
- Organizations with discriminatory employment or program practices.
- Any form of direct financial assistance to individuals.
- Reimbursement for programs, programs or items purchased before grant is authorized.
