Applications open for NordArt 2024

Dated: August 17, 2023

Artists from all over the world can apply to participate in NordArt.

Donor Name: NordArt

Country: All Countries

Type of Grant: Event

Deadline: 10/31/2023

Size of the Grant:

  • NordArt Prize: € 10,000
  • Audience Award: € 1,000

Details:

NordArt is one of the largest exhibitions of contemporary art in Europe, which is redesigned every year and presents more than 200 selected artists from all over the world – internationally renowned artists as well like newcomers. Each work stands for itself and at the same time in dialogue with the others. In synergy with the impressive backdrop of the Carlshütte, a unique atmosphere is created that invites you on a journey of discovery.

NordArt thrives on the different perspectives of individual cultures, but also makes it clear that East and West, South and North have many common ideas. In order to deepen the insights, NordArt dedicates its own pavilion to a different country every year and cooperates with embassies, cultural institutions and curators of the respective countries. Individual artists are also specifically appointed and special projects are realized as part of NordArt.

The chief curator of NordArt is Wolfgang Gramm. The senior curator is Inga Aru.

Prize Information

  • NordArt Prize: The NordArt Prize, endowed with 10,000 euros, has been donated by Hans-Julius and Johanna Ahlmann since 2010. One artist is awarded the NordArt Prize every year. The winner will be announced towards the end of the exhibition and is invited to participate in NordArt again. The award ceremony will take place at the NordArt opening in the following year.
  • Audience Award: NordArt visitors have the opportunity to vote for their favourites. Three audience awards are each worth 1,000 euros and are associated with an invitation to participate in the NordArt in the following year.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Artists from all over the world can apply to participate in NordArt. Applications for participation in the exhibition are preferably made online. Alternatively, applications can also be submitted by post or email. The application period ends on October 31, 2023.
  • There are no application or participation fees.
  • The works of art will be selected by a jury by mid-February 2024. All invited artists will be notified and asked to confirm their participation and documents for the catalogue.
  • A list of the selected artists and special projects will be published on the website by the beginning of March 2024.
  • Please note that for organizational reasons it is not possible to send a separate notification to unselected applicants.

Selection of Artists

  • The artists will be selected by a jury by mid-February 2024. The jury consists of curators, artists, an art historian and the board of directors.
  • All invited artists will be notified in writing (by email or post) and asked for confirmation of participation and documents for the catalogue.
  • A list of the selected artists will be published on the website in early March 2024.
