Call for Proposals to Direct the Next Lady Shakes Full-length Production

Selection Criteria

• The Lady Shakes Theatre Company Board of Directors will make its decision regarding submissions based on the following criteria:
  • Production Choice and Artistic Vision – Lady Shakes is looking for works of Shakespeare featuring all-women casting. Traditional or alternative interpretations with regard to setting, time period, costuming and theme will all be considered. Creativity and inventiveness are encouraged and will be balanced with the resources available to them in the form of volunteers, venue and money.
  • Theatrical Experience – Like most community theatre organizations, Lady Shakes is funded primarily by ticket sales, and event attendance depends upon reception in the community. If you are a potential director with no previous directing or production staff experience, please consider first participating as a volunteer or assistant in a Lady Shakes production or other productions in the community.
  • Supporting Lady Shakes’ Mission – Each community theatre has its own unique culture and place in the community. The directors have a higher chance of leading successful productions if they are familiar with and supportive of the organization’s mission, infrastructure, norms, policies, and resources.
  • Directing Style – Lady Shakes is a volunteer-operated organization. People volunteer for the productions because they love theatre, they support their visioning, and because it is just plain fun to do so. Your ability to work with and empower people, engage them with original ideas, and be a strong yet compassionate leader will determine whether or not those volunteers return to them in the future.
