The Freedom Prize invites young people aged between 15 to 25 years old from France and around the world to choose an inspiring person or organisation, committed to an exemplary fight for freedom.

Purpose

  • The Normandy Region, the International Institute of Human Rights and Peace, the academic authorities of Normandy, hereinafter referred to as the “organisers”, have joined together to create the Freedom Prize to defend and preserve the values of the Allied landings of the 6th of June 1944.
  • Each year, the Freedom Prize invites young people aged from 15 to 25 from Normandy, other regions of France and abroad to nominate, select and elect a person or organisation which has distinguished himself/herself/itself with regard to his/her/its recent fight for freedom.
  • The purpose of these rules is to establish the principles of the sixth edition of the Freedom Prize.

Stages of the Freedom Prize 2024

  • The Freedom Prize 2024 is structured around 3 main stages:
    • The call for proposals “Our Freedom Prize 2024” – Until 12 January 2024
      • Young people aged 15-25 are invited to present the person or organisation whose fight for freedom they wish to make known, using the online form.
    • The deliberations of the international panel of judges – 12 to 16 February 2024
      • An international panel of judges made up of 24 young people aged 15 to 25 meets in Normandy to consider the applications for “Our Freedom Prize”, choosing three people or organizations as nominees for the online vote.
    • The online vote – from 20 March to 30 April 2024
      • Online voting invites 15-25 year olds from all over the world to nominate the laureate of the Freedom Prize from among the three people or organizations chosen by the international jury.

Audience

  • Participation in the various stages of the Freedom Prize is open to all young people between the ages of 15 and 25, regardless of nationality, geographical origin and the type of participation (school, association, independent participation, etc.).

Criteria

  • Young people aged 15-25 are invited to present the person or organisation whose fight for freedom they wish to make known, using the online form.
  • To participate in this call for applications, you just need to propose, as a group, the person or organization of your choice and defend their recent fight for freedom. The Freedom Prize can be a person or an organization, known to the media or unknown. He/she must have carried out at least one concrete action in the last three years.
