Fellowship Opportunities for U.S. Scholars to Conduct Research on Iraq
- TARII is a consortium of American universities, museums, and other scholarly institutions dedicated to the furtherance of research in and on Iraq and to fostering mutual understanding and respect between American and Iraqi peoples. A major part of the operations will always be the fellowship program for American and Iraqi scholars to conduct research focused on subjects in any legitimate academic field from ancient Mesopotamia to modern Iraq.
- The Academic Research Institute in Iraq (TARII) invites proposals from U.S. scholars every year for feasible research on Iraq-related topics to be conducted outside of the United States. For example, projects could include:
- Research in archives in Europe, Turkey, or India
- Interviews with Iraqis living abroad
- Remote sensing of ancient Iraqi landscapes
- Collaboration between a U.S. scholar and an Iraqi living in Iraq
- Proposals for TARII’s U.S. Fellowship program are invited from American post-doctoral and advanced pre-doctoral researchers for awards of up to $8,000. Joint Iraqi – American proposals will also be considered and may combine budgets from TARII’s Iraq Fellowship program.
Fellowship Opportunities for Iraqi Scholars to Conduct Research in Iraq
- Proposals are invited every year from post-doctoral and advanced pre-doctoral researchers for fellowships to conduct research related to Iraq in any field of the humanities or social sciences. While the TARII mission emphasizes and encourages proposals for research in the humanities and social sciences, proposals for related work in the natural sciences will also be considered. Requests should not exceed $5,000. The final amount awarded will depend upon the merit of the proposal and the budget justification.
Eligibility Criteria
- Fellowship Opportunities for U.S. Scholars to Conduct Research on Iraq
- Eligibility is limited to U.S. citizens who are post-graduate researchers, full-time graduate students in recognized degree programs, or community college faculty. Awards will be made on the basis of merit as determined by a review panel consisting of leading scholars. Research funded by this fellowship must include international travel but, due to current restrictions, may not include travel to Iraq.
- Fellowship Opportunities for Iraqi Scholars to Conduct Research in Iraq
- Eligibility is limited to Iraqi citizens, residing in Iraq, who are university faculty members, post-graduate researchers or full-time graduate students in recognized degree programs. Awards will be made on the basis of merit as determined by a review panel consisting of international scholars from leading universities and institutions. Joint Iraqi – American projects will also be considered.
