Details:

The Statewide Community Regrants (SCR) Program is a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). Founded in 1977, it was developed to ensure that New York State’s cultural funding reaches every community in the state. Through the SCR Program, NYSCA provides state funding to arts and cultural organizations in communities that might not otherwise have access. Local arts agencies, like SLC Arts, help administer the SCR program on a local level to make project-based arts support available to geographically, economically, and culturally diverse populations, and to increase the vitality of and livability of the North Country.

Purpose

The Community Arts Grant offers project-specific support for arts projects, programs and activities that enable local communities to experience and engage with the arts. Fundable activities may include, but are not limited to performances, exhibitions, workshops, classes, festivals, screenings, readings or virtual programming. All artistic disciplines are eligibile. All activities MUST be community based, have an artistic/cultural activity as its primary focus, and be open to the general public.

Funding Information

  • $500 – $5,000 is available for Community Arts Grant.
  • Funded projects MUST take place January 01, 2024 – December 31, 2024.

Allowable Expenses

  • Activities/projects of local arts organizations, including both live and virtual activities
  • Artists’ fees for performing, teaching, or providing services
  • Marketing/publicity costs
  • Direct administrative expenses and/or planning and preparation expenses for a proposed event (should compose no more than 25% of grant request)
  • Supplies, materials, equipment, software, subscriptions and training needed for the execution of the proposed project, not to exceed $1,000 (ie: art supplies, sheet music, hardware, flash drives, training tools, etc.)
  • Project-related travel expenses within the state of New York
  • Project-related rentals of space and equipment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • 501(c)3 non-profit organizations, incorporated within Jefferson, Lewis, or St. Lawrence Counties, established for at least one year, with an active board of trustees, which conduct all activities with non-discriminating practices regarding race, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability, including all programming activities, administration, and board representation
    • Eligibility status will be confirmed with the NYS Department of State Division of Corporations or the NYS Charities Bureau.
  • Governmental or quasi-governmental entities, or Tribal Nations, located within Jefferson, Lewis, or St. Lawrence Counties
  • A group that is incorporated in another state as a not-for-profit corporation, registered in New York State (as a “foreign not-for-profit corporation”), with its primary location in Jefferson, Lewis or St. Lawrence County, and registered with the Charities Bureau.
  • Individual artists, collectives and unincorporated organizations may apply through a Fiscal Sponsor – a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, government entity or Tribal Nation, that meets these eligibility requirements and assumes responsibility for various administrative and fiduciary obligations on the applicant’s behalf. (Please see slcartscouncil.org/grants/resources for more information about fiscal sponsorship.)
    • Projects must take place in the same county in which the Fiscal Sponsor is located
  • Lead applicant must be at least 18 years of age and not enrolled in a full-time undergraduate degree program.
  • The three-application/$5,000 limit does not apply to Fiscal Sponsors; they may simultaneously submit grant requests on behalf of their own organization and assist others; the additional applications will not count towards their $5,000 maximum.
  • The three-application/$5,000 limit does not apply to Tribal Nations. However, individual Tribal organizations within Tribal Nations are subject to this limitation.
