Hispanics and Latinos make up 20% of the U.S. population but only 12% of those working in media, and representation of Hispanics and Latinos in newsrooms has barely budged over the last decade.
The Scripps Howard Fund is seeking to fund new journalism internship programs aimed at increasing the number of Hispanic and Latino journalists working in specific regions where they are under-represented in newsrooms.
This one-year grant will range from $20,000 to $40,000 and can be used to cover startup costs, such as creating a website, marketing materials, research and other expenses, in addition to funding internships for, at least, one to two students enrolled in college-level courses or recent college graduates.
Eligibility Criteria
The application is open to existing nonprofits. Organizations and/or individuals not registered as a 501(c)(3) are welcome to apply using a fiscal sponsor.
