South Dakota: Conservation Collaboration Cooperative Agreements

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), an agency under the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), is announcing potential availability of agreements in South Dakota for the purpose of leveraging NRCS resources, addressing local natural resource issues, encouraging collaboration, and developing state- and community-level conservation leadership.

Details:

The purpose of Conservation Collaboration Cooperative Agreements (CCCA) is to leverage NRCS and partner resources to help NRCS to address the goals of their strategic plan:

  • Improve soil health.
  • Improve landscape performance in dealing with water quantity issues; either excess or inadequate, and downstream impacts.
  • Improve water quality.
  • Improve habitat for local wildlife species of concern.
  • Improve the environmental and economic performance of working agricultural lands.
  • Assist communities and groups to build and strengthen local food projects that provide healthy food and economic opportunities.
  • Support Climate Smart Agriculture and Forestry Strategies.

Priority will be placed on projects that address soil health, climate smart agriculture, water quality and quantity, habitat, and urban/community agriculture, and will be executed through:

  • Building technical capacity of the NRCS to implement Farm Bill Conservation Programs.
  • Building technical capacity of NRCS and partner field conservation employees.
  • Building the capacity of local partners to develop and implement effective projects that align within the mission and scope of NRCS.
  • Leveraging non-Federal and non-government resources to achieve positive natural resources conservation outcomes.

Funding Information

  • Estimated Total Program Funding: $4,300,000
  • Award Ceiling: $1,200,000
  • Award Floor: $50,000

Performance Period

Projects may be between one to four years in duration.

Eligibility for this opportunity is limited to the following entity types

  • Native American tribal governments (Federally recognized)
  • Native American tribal organizations (other than Federally recognized tribal governments)

  • Private institutions of higher education
  • Public and State-controlled institutions of higher education
  • Public housing authorities/Indian housing authorities
  • Small businesses
  • Special district governments
  • State government
