Tribute to Women has been honoring Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia women who NURTURE, EMPOWER, or TRANSFORM their community. This campaign recognizes award recipients from each of the nomination categories and serves as the YWCA’s largest corporate fundraiser.

  • NURTURE:  The nominee excels in a position or role through which her abilities as a leader and mentor have resulted in the flourishing and accomplishments of her organization, team, students or community. She las a long-lasting commitment to a cause, place, or group of people who benefit from her inspiration and efforts, which has been renewed or is thriving due to her particular influence.
  • EMPOWER: The nominee is a groundbreaking individual who has blazed a new trail in her field or company. She has taken on challenging assignments and created new opportunities for herself, other women and/or under-served groups. While setting and achieving consistently high standards of professional success for herself, she also fosters a strong sense of volunteerism and public service in those around her.
  • TRANSFORM: The nominee sparks change through inspiration and improvement of a community or organization. Through exemplary leadership and vision she is a catalyst, a creative influencer who others can follow.

Nominating Criteria

Candidates for the YWCA Tribute to Women award must possess the following attributes:

  • The qualities of an effective leader in her field
  • Significant growth and achievement in her area of expertise
  • Evidence of her impact and contributions within her organization or the community
  • Employment or contributions in the geographic service area of the YWCA NETN & SWVA.
  • Candidates may only be nominated once a year.
