Focus Areas
Early Child Development
The foundation believes that access to extraordinary educational opportunities from birth is critical for the health and happiness of the children of West Georgia and the communities in which they will live and work. They prioritize grants that impact children from birth through age four.
They fund:
- Efforts designed to develop young children’s “reading readiness” and early literacy skills
- Access to local, high quality early educational opportunities
- Professional development of the local, early childhood development workforce
- Early screening and intervention for preschoolers around problems that could limit educational success (speech, hearing, vision, development, autism, and specific learning disabilities)
- Approaches that prepare parents to effectively support their child’s early learning, develop reading readiness skills and promote early literacy (parent coaching/mentoring, book in the home, etc.)
Environmental
The Foundation believes in protecting the fragile, natural beauty of the West Georgia Region and raising awareness for the role that each of us as individuals play in the larger environmental community.
They fund:
- Conservation and stewardship of the local region’s natural resources including:
- River and stream monitoring and activities that help ensure river and stream purity and availability of clean drinking water. This includes removal of trash toxic items from land and waterways
- Recycling projects and beautification of public space
- Community education and volunteer and community engagement
Leadership
- Leadership Development & Capacity-Building for Nonprofits:
- AHR Fund is currently strengthening West Georgia nonprofits by funding Standards of Excellence with partners CFWG, UWG, and The Georgia Center for Nonprofits.
- Nonprofit Community Capacity Building: AHR makes grants that help strengthen the local community of nonprofits, through the sharing of ideas and best practices, networking and informal mentoring.
