Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible Organizations: OWEB-funded interests in land may be held by local, State and federal agencies, tribes, not-for-profit land conservation organizations and trusts, state institutions of higher education, independent not-for-profit institutions of higher education or political subdivisions of the state, as long as the entity continues to use the land for the purposes specified in the Oregon Constitution. OWEB does not make acquisition grants directly to state or federal agencies or private landowners. In the case of conservation easement projects, the grantee is OWEB’s direct partner and is responsible for working with the private landowner to develop and implement the project.
- Eligible Interests in Land: Land acquisition grant funds may be used for the purchase of fee simple and perpetual conservation easement interests in land. OWEB’s land acquisition grant program does not currently fund the purchase of any other type of property interest.
- Eligible Projects: OWEB’s land acquisition grants are generally intended for future acquisitions of property rights. However, OWEB may reimburse a grantee for the prior purchase of a property interest. Refer to the Budget and Match sections below for more information about the timing of eligible expenditures.
