The city has $20,000 in lodging tax funds available to qualified applicants for projects and events that promote tourism in 2025. Lodging tax funds come from the taxes collected from Studio 6 motel, 6017 244th Street SW, the only lodging facility in city limits.
Lodging tax funds must be used for marketing or operation Studio 6 Hotel – Mountlake Terrace of special events and festivals designed to attract tourists. They may also support the operations of tourism-related facilities owned or operated by nonprofit organizations according to law.
Programs or events should have the potential to increase overnight visits to the city’s hotel and/or create a positive economic impact. These funds have helped support events such as Arts of the Terrace and Tour de Terrace.
All events must adhere to laws and regulations, from the city, state and public health agencies.
Criteria
Lodging tax funds are derived from the hotel-motel tax collected by the city’s lodging establishments and may be used towards the marketing and operations of special events and festivals designed to attract tourists. They may also be used to support the operations and capital expenditures of tourism-related facilities owned or operated by a municipality or a public facilities district created under RCW 35.57 and 36.100. Finally, lodging tax funds may also support the operations of tourism-related facilities owned or operated by nonprofit organizations described under 26 U.S.C. Sec. 501(c)(3) and 26 U.S.C. Sec. 501(c)(6) of the internal revenue code of 1986, as amended.
