The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program provides funding on an annual basis for local projects that address a variety of housing, public service, and community development needs.
Proposed projects should address the goals of the CDBG program, which include providing affordable housing opportunities, revitalizing neighborhoods, renovating substandard housing, providing public services and expanding economic development opportunities, primarily for persons of low and moderate income.
Eligibility Criteria
- Nonprofits: Non-profit organizations are eligible to apply for CDBG funding. Non-profits must be incorporated under state law, and they must have a 501(c) (3) or similar designation from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. For-profit entities are not eligible to receivepublic services grants. Applicants must have, and document, a status of good standing in the state in which they are chartered and provide a certificate of good standing as part of the application.
- Government Agencies: Governmental and quasi-governmental agencies, including County and incorporated town agencies may apply for CDBG funding. However, these agencies are strongly encouraged to apply in partnership with a local non-profit organization. The nonprofit organization should be, whenever practical, the primary applicant. If you feel the activity can be more efficiently and effectively delivered solely by a governmental agency, please provide a detailed explanation in question 6 of the application.
