Northwest Connecticut Arts Council’s Access Grants

Dated: August 3, 2022

The Northwest Connecticut Arts Council is pleased to announce Access grants to provide general operating support to eligible entities.

Donor Name: Northwest Connecticut Arts Council

State: Connecticut

Town: Selected Towns

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline (mm/dd/yyyy): 10/31/2022

Details:

The intention of these funds is to: Enable organizations to carry out their missions with greater capacity for providing access to the arts and engaging underserved populations. The way their communities engage with one another and with the arts has altered following the pandemic, and as a consequence, the way they must operate has shifted as well. This funding will help you navigate this transitory season, so you can meet your audience where they are at and continue blessing them with your work.

They want to invest in the arts community, their recovery from the effects of COVID-19, and continued growth in order to:

  • Leverage the restorative power of the arts to support the holistic health of their region.
  • Improve access to and engagement with the arts – specifically amongst underserved populations (those whose opportunities to experience the arts are limited by ethnicity, economics, geography, or disability).

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants and primary beneficiaries must be located within the 25 town-region of Northwest CT.
  • 501(c)(3) Nonprofits: Arts organizations, cultural institutions, and schools are invited to apply for the purpose of expanding access to meaningful artistic encounters. Those submitting applications MUST have existing arts programming.
  • Cultural institutions (such as historical societies, libraries, and schools) that are not designated arts organizations, must allocate funds to programs and services that provide meaningful engagement with the arts. They cannot use funds to support internal programs, administration, or operation expenses (library books, band boosters, equipment purchases) that are unrelated to the arts.
  • Units of State/Local Government dedicated to arts and culture.
  • Eligible Entities MUST:
    • Have an annual operating budget of $500,000 or less (with the exception of schools/colleges)
    • Have arts and culture explicitly stated as a central part of your organization’s mission.
    • An organization that includes arts and culture as a primary and major focus of a larger mission may apply.
    • Be in continuous operation and exhibiting or producing arts and culture programming for the past five years.
    • The programming may be seasonal in nature and not necessarily take up a full academic or calendar year.
    • The Council will consider disruptions/changes to programming caused by COVID.
  • Service Area: Barkhamsted, Bethlehem, Burlington, Colebrook, Cornwall, Falls Village/Canaan, Goshen, Hartland, Harwinton, Kent, Litchfield, Morris, New Hartford, New Milford, Norfolk, North Canaan, Plymouth, Roxbury, Salisbury/Lakeville, Sharon, Thomaston, Torrington, Warren, Washington, and Winchester/Winsted.
