United Way of Wyoming Valley Grant for Nonprofit Organizations in Pennsylvania

United Way of Wyoming Valley is pleased to announce funding opportunities in support of its Community Impact Model, “Poverty to Possibility – Improving the Odds for Children and Families,” and in support for their Safety Net Impact Area defined as “Access to shelter and other essential services for individuals, families and youth who face threats to their immediate well-being.”

Details:

United Way of Wyoming Valley is seeking proposals to implement targeted Funding Strategies in the areas of Education, Financial Stability, Health, and Safety Net. Nonprofit organizations that have been determined to be 501(c)(3) entities by the Internal Revenue Service currently providing, or could successfully implement, high-quality services and programs in alignment with one or more of these strategies are encouraged to apply for funding.

Targeted Areas

Education

The following Community Outcomes under Education support their overall goal “To help at-risk children enter kindergarten ready to learn and move through school and beyond graduation with confidence” and address barriers that prevent at-risk Wyoming Valley families with dependent children from achieving academic success.

Community Outcomes/Funding Strategies:

  • Children enter kindergarten prepared to learn.
  • Children are reading at grade level by the end of the third grade.
  • Youth graduate from high school prepared for higher education or employment.
  • Youth envision and articulate a path from school to employment in the education workforce.

Health

The following Community Outcomes under Health support their goal “To help at-risk children and families achieve good health,” and seek to remove health related barriers that prevent at-risk Wyoming Valley children from academic achievement.

Community Outcomes/Funding Strategies

  • Parents/caregivers are engaged in the healthy development of their children to ensure children achieve developmental milestones.
  • Children have access to basic health screenings and prevention education.
  • Children maintain good school attendance.
  • Children are safeguarded from abuse and neglect to ensure they are healthy and prepared to succeed in school.

Financial Stability

The Community Outcome under Financial Stability supports their goal “To help at-risk individuals and families achieve greater financial stability,” and address barriers that prevent at-risk Wyoming Valley families from achieving financial stability.

  • Families learn how to successfully manage their personal finances.
  • Families maintain/gain employment.

Safety Net

The Community Outcomes under Safety Net supports their goal to create or improve “Access to shelter and other essential services for individuals, families and youth who face threats to their immediate well-being.

  • Individuals, families and youth obtain short-term, emergency shelter.
  • Individuals, families and youth receive essential services to address needs of an urgent nature.
  • Individuals/families/youth have access to basic primary and oral health care services.
  • Individuals/families/youth have access to basic primary and oral health care services.

Eligibility Requirements

  • The lead applicant must be a 501(c)(3).
  • The lead application must employ at least one paid staff person.
  • The lead applicant’s financial statements must be audited annually.
  • The lead applicant must have sound governance, financial and program management.
  • The lead applicant must have a record keeping system in place to support all reports required by this grant.
  • The lead applicant must have the ability to properly utilize and account for program funds.
  • Funded proposals must target Wyoming Valley families with dependent children and income limits at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level. Safety Net proposals will target individuals, families and youth at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level or facing immediate threats to their well-being.
  • Funded proposals must track and measure United Way of Wyoming Valley’s Community Outcomes and Indicators.
